Calculator method
E-bike commute savings calculator methodology
Use the interactive calculator on the VoltLane homepage to estimate variable transport costs that may be avoided when replacing commute miles with an e-bike.
Formula
days per week × 48 weeks × round-trip miles × (avoided car cost per mile − $0.03 e-bike allowance). Negative results are shown as zero.
What the estimate includes
The user supplies an avoided per-mile cost. The e-bike allowance is a simple planning assumption for electricity and routine wear, not a measured universal rate.
What it excludes
Bike and accessory purchase, finance, depreciation, major repairs, insurance, parking, tolls, transit fares, taxes, time, health effects, weather disruptions, and days when another mode is used. Use actual records for a financial decision.
