Rain commute checklist for e-bike riders

Wet roads reduce grip and can increase stopping distance while glare makes riders harder to see. Slow the plan down: visibility, smooth inputs, and dry critical cargo matter more than maintaining a normal pace.

Before leaving

Check both lights, tire condition and pressure, brake response, and that bags are closed. Choose clothing that preserves movement and sight lines. Confirm that electronics and work items are in a properly sealed inner bag if the pannier itself is only water-resistant.

On the road

Increase following distance, brake earlier and progressively, and avoid abrupt steering on paint, metal covers, leaves, and standing water. Do not assume drivers have seen a flashing light. Local lighting rules and road restrictions still apply.

At the destination

Remove wet batteries only when the manufacturer permits it and dry the bike without forcing water into bearings, connectors, or seals. Hang clothing where it can dry, recharge lights, and inspect brake pads and tires if the ride involved grit or debris.
